Walküre Porzellan is a name synonymous with more than one hundred years of German history and porcelain tradition. In 1896, eight years before the hot dog was invented in St. Louis, a man called Siegmund Paul Meyer opened a porcelain painting workshop at the foot of Bayreuth Hill in Bavaria, which he quickly expanded into a major porcelain factory.
At first, he focused on crafting fireproof cookware which he named after Richard Wagner’s classic piece “Walküre”, the Ride of the Valkyries. More than a century later this name still stands for high quality porcelain, elegant design and practicality.
Walküre quickly became one of these German “hidden gems”, a company that might not be very well known to the public, but is represented all over the world with highly specialized products. This is why it is still recognised by leading hospitality establishments, restaurants and coffee shops across the globe.
Today, Meyer’s great-grandchildren, Wolfgang and Siegmund, still follow in his footsteps and have created collections that bring together the traditional German porcelain design with modern approaches and technology.
Unsurprisingly, the factory also has its own museum, an exhibition where the jugs and cups, the bowls and mugs, sponsored gifts and wedding services take you on a journey through more than a hundred years of the German zeitgeist.
Walküre is truly making tomorrow’s classics and is a preferred choice by many coffee shops worldwide. Their “Altra” and “NYNY” coffee cup collections are still best sellers to this day.
When Walküre brought the Alta coffee cup series onto the market over 20 years ago nobody in Germany knew what a ristretto was. The company popularised a collection of cups that included sizes for all Italian coffee specialties, all the way from ristretto and espresso to cappuccino and latte macchiato.

This collection bridges the gap between American and European coffee drinking culture.
NYNY represents Italian-American coffee culture in porcelain, and much like the Alta collection, offers cups and mugs in sizes all the way from espresso to cappuccino and latte macchiato.
The defining design element of the NYNY cups is the angular handle. Aside from being ergonomic and practical it also has the shape of a coffee bean, an artistic touch that does not go unnoticed. So, it comes as no surprise that this collection is the winner of the Red Dot Design award, one of the most prestigious awards in design.
